A brand of cheese sold in the Outaouais is being recalled because it may be contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus, also known as staph.
Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) says Grondines-brand cheese sold between July 9 and 16 at La trappe à fromage de l’Outaouais locations in Gatineau and Chelsea should not be eaten, even if it looks safe. The cheese was sold refrigerated and wrapped in plastic.
Staph food poisoning can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea within 30 minutes to eight hours after eating contaminated food. Anyone with symptoms lasting more than 24 hours should seek medical care.
As of Aug. 3, no illnesses had been reported. The store said it did not make the cheese and has removed the recalled product from its shelves.
The recall follows two other recalls involving Grondines-brand cheese in Quebec last month.
