Sony is reportedly planning to end physical disc releases for PlayStation games after 2027. Starting in January 2028, the company is expected to focus on digital downloads through the PlayStation Store and boxed games containing download codes.
Reports suggest 2027 could be the final year for major physical game releases. Several major titles are reportedly planned, including Until Dawn 2, God of War LA, Marvel’s Venom and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Other expected releases include an unannounced project from Media Molecule and a story-based action game from Bend Studio, reportedly called Mirror Pond.
Moving away from physical discs would help Sony reduce manufacturing, storage and shipping costs while focusing more on digital sales.
However, the reported plans and release details have not been officially confirmed by Sony.
