THUNDER BAY – A 72-year-old man from the city is facing multiple drug trafficking charges after police say they seized over $100,000 worth of illegal drugs during a search on Court Street South.
According to the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS), officers carried out a search warrant on June 17 in the 200-block of Court Street South with help from the Thunder Bay Community Street Crime Unit. The search was part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking linked to communities in Northern Ontario.
Police say drugs including fentanyl, oxycodone, hydromorphone, and morphine were found, along with about $10,000 in cash and other items used in drug trafficking.
Authorities estimate the drugs seized had a street value of more than $107,000. They also say the network may have been supplying drugs to First Nations communities, including Aroland First Nation.
The man has been charged with multiple counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He has been released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court later. His name has not been released because the charges have not yet been formally sworn in.
The investigation is still ongoing.
