Meteor explodes over Massachusetts, triggering loud booms across the region

A meteor exploded over the northeastern United States on Saturday, causing loud booms across parts of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, NASA said. The space rock broke apart high above the ground while travelling more than 120,000 km/h, releasing energy equal to about 300 tons of TNT.

Residents said the blasts were so strong that some homes shook. NASA confirmed the object was a natural meteor and not space debris or a satellite.
