Uber Eats is making a significant move into less populated areas. The food delivery app revealed its plans this week to extend its services to 50 small cities and towns across Canada, with 10 of them in Ontario, starting this Wednesday. This expansion is set to be completed by the end of the year.
On Wednesday, the following towns had their Uber Eats launch: Woodstock, Chatham, Stratford, Grimsby, Fergus, Leamington, Tillsonburg, Strathroy, Fort Erie, Elora, and Beamsville.
In most of these towns, Uber is not currently providing its rideshare services. Therefore, a significant challenge, as pointed out by Kassim, will be to raise awareness among local restaurants, potential drivers, and customers. Kassim mentioned, “We need to kickstart these markets, and that entails building awareness. These are, for the most part, entirely new territories for the company.”
Nevertheless, while the company asserts that it offers fresh revenue opportunities for restaurants, the leader of an industry association argues that this revenue can be accompanied by significant and sometimes unpredictable expenses.
