Thunder Bay man charged with possessing child sexual abuse material

A 56-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing charges related to child sexual abuse material as part of an ongoing police investigation.

Thunder Bay police said Jeffrey Peters was charged with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material after he turned himself in to police Wednesday.

Peters was kept in custody after a court appearance.

Police said their cyber crime unit began investigating on Aug. 19 after receiving a report that someone in the area had uploaded child sexual abuse material to the Bing search engine.

Officers searched a local home on Sept. 24 and seized several electronic devices.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 807-684-1200, extension 407, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police also reminded parents and caregivers to stay alert when children are using the internet and electronic devices. They pointed to Cybertip.ca as a resource for reporting online child sexual exploitation.
