Canadians are being urged to check their kitchens after several food recalls were issued this week. The recalls involve undeclared allergens, bacterial contamination and foreign objects that could pose health risks.
Cheese products recalled in Ontario and Quebec
Several Bianca Murgia, Longo’s Curato and Sapori Coratini cheese products have been recalled because they may contain generic E. coli.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says the bacteria is non-pathogenic, but the recall is classified as Class 2, meaning it could cause short-term illness. Consumers should not eat or distribute the affected cheeses.
Vegetarian beef and beancurd recalled
Four Wu Xian Zhai vegetarian beef and preserved beancurd products are being recalled after tests found undeclared wheat.
The products were sold in Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. People with a wheat allergy, celiac disease or gluten-related disorders should not eat them and should return or throw them away.
Candy recalled after stones found
OneTang Walnut Soft Candy with Black Sesame has been recalled in Ontario and Manitoba because stones were found in the product.
The CFIA classified it as a Class 3 recall, meaning the risk of health effects is considered low.
Chicken burgers recalled over undeclared egg
Cardinal Roadhouse Chicken Burgers have been recalled in Ontario, British Columbia, and Newfoundland and Labrador because they contain undeclared egg.
The CFIA says the burgers could cause a serious allergic reaction in people with an egg allergy. Consumers should not eat or serve the product.
