The United States carried out new airstrikes across Iran early Thursday, and Iran responded by launching missiles toward several U.S.-allied countries in the Middle East, raising fears that a fragile ceasefire is breaking down.
Air raid sirens sounded in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan as officials reported intercepting many of the incoming missiles and drones. Kuwait said one person was injured by falling debris, while no major damage was immediately reported elsewhere.
The U.S. military said it struck about 90 targets across Iran, including missile launch sites, saying the attacks were aimed at reducing Iran’s military capabilities. Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities, including near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, though officials said the facility was not damaged.
Iran’s Health Ministry said at least 14 people were killed and 78 others were injured in the latest U.S. strikes. Additional deaths were also reported in southwestern Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump blamed Iran for recent attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and warned that any further attacks would bring a stronger U.S. response.
The latest fighting has cast doubt on efforts to reach a permanent peace agreement, with both sides continuing to exchange threats despite ongoing negotiations.
