A garlic powder product has been pulled from store shelves across Canada due to possible contamination with Bacillus cereus, a bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said the recall affects Heavenly Spices garlic powder (70 g) with UPC 6 67888 50634 7 and the code BB: 2029 JAN 30 GP 30ZV PIT.
The product, recalled by Dollarama L.P., was sold nationally and online. Consumers are advised not to use, sell, or distribute the affected garlic powder.
The CFIA has classified the recall as Class 2, meaning there is a moderate chance of short-term, non-life-threatening health effects.
Bacillus cereus can cause vomiting or diarrhea after eating contaminated food. Symptoms can appear within hours and usually clear up within 24 hours, but illness can be more serious in some cases. Proper food storage and handling can help prevent contamination.
