Nearly 200 wildfires are burning across Northern Ontario, with 57 still out of control. Most of the fires are in the northwest.
Officials warn wildfire activity and heavy smoke could continue, forcing more communities to evacuate. Neskantaga First Nation is planning another evacuation flight to Toronto because of limited hotel space in Thunder Bay.
Whitewater Lake First Nation says homes, infrastructure and personal belongings have been destroyed. Fire crews are focused on protecting lives, homes and critical infrastructure. Restricted fire zones and outdoor burning bans remain in effect across northwestern Ontario.
While recent rain has helped slow some fires, officials say much more rainfall is needed as communities continue to deal with smoke, supply disruptions and advancing wildfires.
