Ebola Outbreak Sparks Fears of Wider Spread, Expert Warns

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the latest Ebola outbreak a global public health emergency to help countries work together and send more support to affected areas, according to infectious disease expert Dr. Zahid Butt.

Butt said officials are worried because the virus is spreading across borders and there may be more undetected cases. He also said this Ebola strain is especially concerning because there are no vaccines or specific treatments available.

Ebola spreads through contact with bodily fluids like blood, vomit, diarrhea, and semen from an infected person. Symptoms can appear between two and 21 days after infection, but usually show up within eight to 10 days.
