Fire restrictions are now in place across parts of northwestern Ontario as crews battle several active wildfires.
Restrictions affect areas in the Dryden, Fort Frances and Atikokan districts near fires by Factor Lake, Little Turtle Lake and Sandbar Lake near Ignace. Some roads, shoreline areas and Crown land are closed to the public unless special permission is given.
Officials are also warning people to be careful over the long weekend because dry conditions increase the risk of grass fires. Outdoor burning rules remain in effect across Ontario until Oct. 31.
There are currently nine active wildfires in the Northwest Region. Some are under control, while others near Factor Lake, Northwest Bay First Nation and Lac la Croix are still burning out of control.
