A few minutes before 2 p.m. ET on Monday, the crew of Artemis II broke a record set 56 years ago by Apollo 13. They traveled more than 248,655 miles from Earth—farther than any humans ever have.
To celebrate, they named two craters on the Moon. One was called “Integrity,” after their spacecraft. The other was named “Carroll” in honour of commander Reid Wiseman’s late wife, who died of cancer in 2020. The crew shared an emotional moment and hugged after the announcement.
The names must still be approved by the International Astronomical Union.
