The four astronauts from NASA’s Artemis II mission have safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean after a successful trip around the Moon.
The crew—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen—spent nine days in space, travelling farther from Earth than any humans before.
Their Orion spacecraft re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at extremely high speed, facing intense heat before safely deploying parachutes and landing in the ocean. The astronauts were then taken to a recovery ship and are reported to be in good health.
This mission is an important step for NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to send humans back to the Moon and eventually to Mars.
