Southern Ontario bracing for up to 25 cm of snowfall

More snow is expected in parts of southern Ontario, and weather warnings are in place.

Environment Canada has issued yellow snow squall warnings for areas east of Lake Huron.

Between five and 25 centimetres of snow is forecast for Friday, with some areas seeing snow into the night. Snow amounts will depend on the location.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in the Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound areas, where 15 to 25 centimetres of snow is possible, according to the weather agency.

Environment Canada says the strongest snow squall is expected to move south during the day, then move north in the evening, before shifting south again overnight.

Travel could be dangerous, with sudden drops in visibility and snow-covered roads and sidewalks. Drivers are advised to avoid non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve.

In the Barrie area, 10 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected.

Farther south, snowfall amounts are expected to range from five to 15 centimetres.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Environment Canada says more snow may be on the way for parts of the snowbelt.
