The Beer Store to Close Seven More Ontario Locations by Year’s End

The Beer Store says it will shut down seven more stores across Ontario before the end of this year, including one in the Greater Toronto Area.

In a news release, the company confirmed that its Brampton location at 374 Main Street North will close on Nov. 16. Stores in Alexandria, Barrie, Beaverton, Cornwall, Gananoque, and South River will close the same day.

“Selling beer and collecting empty bottles in Ontario is changing as the market expands,” said Ozzie Ahmed, The Beer Store’s vice-president of retail.

“To keep up with this changing market, The Beer Store has made the tough choice to close some locations. We’re committed to following the Early Implementation Agreement and will work to support our employees, customers, and recyclers during this change.”

The company says it will try to help employees affected by the closures, but hasn’t said how many workers will lose their jobs or be moved to other stores.

This announcement is part of a series of closures The Beer Store has made in 2025. The changes come after Premier Doug Ford’s government struck a deal with the company to expand alcohol sales to corner stores.

The agreement requires at least 386 stores to stay open until July 2025 and at least 300 to remain open until the end of the year.

So far this year, more than 60 Beer Store locations have closed or are scheduled to close.

Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Ontarians will be able to return empty bottles to grocery stores that choose to sell alcohol.
