FTC Issues $126 Million in Refunds to Fortnite Users Over Unauthorized Charges, Reopens Claims Process

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is giving out over $126 million in refunds to Fortnite players who were charged for items they didn’t mean to buy while playing the game.

The FTC also said it is reopening the claims process. This means Fortnite players—and their parents or guardians—can now submit a request to get some of their money back. The refunds are part of a deal the FTC made in 2023 with Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite. Epic agreed to pay $245 million after being accused of using sneaky tricks to make players spend money without realizing it.

People who are eligible but haven’t filed a claim yet now have until July 9, 2025, to do so. You can file a claim at www.ftc.gov/fortnite.

In December 2024, the FTC sent out the first round of refunds, giving back over $72 million to more than 629,000 players. Now, in this new round, the FTC will send out almost 970,000 payments by check or PayPal on June 25 and 26 to people who already filed a valid claim.

With this new round, the total amount of money the FTC has returned to Fortnite players is now close to $200 million.

People who asked for a check should cash it within 90 days, and those who chose PayPal need to claim their payment within 30 days.

The FTC warns that it will never ask you to pay money, share personal information, or offer prizes in exchange for a refund. You can learn more about scams or report one at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
