Two injured in stabbing at Sikh temple in Canada.

A man has been arrested after two people were stabbed at a Sikh temple in Edmonton early Friday morning, police said.

The Edmonton Police Service said officers received reports of a stabbing at Nanaksar Gurdwara at about 5 a.m. The suspect allegedly entered the temple and tried to access the prayer area before being confronted by staff.

Police said the confrontation escalated, and two male worshippers, aged 75 and 51, were stabbed. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition.

Witnesses reportedly stepped in and detained the suspect until police arrived.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man known to police, had been released from a federal prison in Alberta the previous day. Police said he failed to report to a halfway house in Edmonton.

Charges are pending. Police are investigating whether the attack was motivated by hate.

The incident comes days after police investigated threatening calls made to two Sikh temples in Calgary.

The World Sikh Organization said the attack was deeply troubling and happened amid concerns about rising anti-Sikh hate in Canada. The group also said Sikh scripture inside the temple was desecrated.

The temple has been closed while police continue their investigation.
