Boil-water advisory issued for Thunder Bay residents

THUNDER BAY — A boil water advisory is now in effect for some residents of Fort William First Nation.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Fort William First Nation officials said the advisory applies to homes between 691 and 706 Mountain Rd. The advisory has been in place since Jan. 29.

Residents must boil water from the community supply for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making food and drinks. People should also avoid using public drinking fountains during this time.

Tap water can still be used for hand washing, laundry, and bathing. However, infants and toddlers should not be bathed in tap water and should be sponge bathed instead, as they could accidentally swallow the water and get sick.

Anyone who swallows the water and feels unwell should seek medical care right away.
