Canadian businesses are adjusting to the latest U.S. tariffs as they wait for Canada’s new retaliatory duties to take effect.
The federal government confirmed it has changed its counter-tariff plan after hearing concerns from industry. Seafood and fish products have been removed from the list to help reduce economic impacts.
Canada is still moving ahead with raising tariffs on U.S. steel and aluminum from 25 to 50 per cent, along with new tariffs of 15 to 50 per cent on hundreds of American products, including clothing, appliances and dairy.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has warned that the Trump administration could respond if Canada introduces more retaliatory tariffs.
