The United States launched another round of airstrikes against Iran overnight, marking the 10th consecutive night of attacks as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes targeted Iranian military command centres, missile and drone launch sites, maritime assets and air defence systems to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest attacks came after President Donald Trump vowed to retaliate for the deaths of three U.S. service members killed in recent attacks in Jordan and Iraq.
Iran responded by claiming it struck two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted U.S. military assets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described the conflict as a “full-scale war” with the United States.
Explosions were reported near the city of Tabriz and several Iranian ports, while the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unidentified projectile, forcing the crew to abandon the vessel.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also claimed it carried out a missile strike against an Amazon data centre in Bahrain, while Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait reported intercepting Iranian drones and missiles.
Despite the escalating conflict, Iranian officials said indirect diplomatic contacts with Washington were continuing through intermediaries.
The U.S. Department of Defense identified two of the three American service members killed in the recent attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan as Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Texas, and Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Hawaii.
