Tornado reported in east-central Saskatchewan, Environment Canada says.

A tornado warning was issued Sunday for east-central Saskatchewan, affecting communities along and near the Manitoba border, including Kamsack and Pelly.

A tornado watch was also issued for areas south of Rhein, including Esterhazy, Stockholm, and Moosomin.

A video appearing to show a tornado was recorded at a gas station and restaurant in Pelly and shared on social media around 6:10 p.m.

By 7:50 p.m., the tornado watch had ended, but a severe thunderstorm warning remained in place.

Earlier, at 6:50 p.m., a warning covered the R.M. of Clayton, including Norquay, Stenen, and Swan Plain. At 6:05 p.m., a possible tornado was reported about 5 kilometres south of Pelly and moving north toward the village.

Environment Canada said around 5:44 p.m. that it was tracking a severe thunderstorm that could be producing a tornado near Badgerville, moving toward The Key, Pelly, and St. Philips. Officials called it a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

At 3:59 p.m., a tornado was reported about 20 kilometres north of Wronxton, between Veregin and Kamsack, moving toward Badgerville and St. Philips.

Communities in the warning area included Kamsack, Rhein, Runnymede, Calder, Rokeby, and parts of the R.M. of Good Lake, Coté, and others. The storm also brought risks of strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain.

A second severe thunderstorm was also tracked near Veregin earlier in the afternoon.

Earlier in the day, a tornado watch covered much of eastern and southeastern Saskatchewan as severe thunderstorms were expected to develop. Environment Canada said conditions could produce tornadoes, strong winds, hail, and heavy rain, though storms were expected to weaken later in the evening.

A special weather statement was also issued earlier for parts of central and western Saskatchewan, warning of possible funnel clouds. Some could develop into weak landspout tornadoes, which are usually short-lived but can still cause damage like broken trees or roof damage.
