A 33-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Kelsey Anderson, 36, who was reported missing last month.
Thunder Bay police said the charge followed an investigation by the major crime unit after Anderson was found dead. The suspect was arrested Saturday and remains in custody.
Anderson was a member of Webequie First Nation and had ties to Kasabonika Lake and Nibinamik First Nations. He was last seen May 9 in the Thunder Centre area while in Thunder Bay for training.
His disappearance led to large community searches involving people from several First Nations in northwestern Ontario and Manitoba. Searchers were supported by Guardian Migizi Security, an Indigenous-led emergency support group.
During the search for Anderson, volunteers also found the remains of Richard Graham, who had been missing since 2024.
Anderson is one of five missing people found dead in Thunder Bay this spring. The deaths have raised concerns among First Nation leaders about how missing persons cases are handled in the city.
Police say they are open to discussions with First Nation leaders and continue to follow their own policies when handling missing persons investigations.
