Consumers may be eligible for compensation from a large class-action settlement if they consumed recalled plant-based drinks sold under Silk and other labels linked to a 2024 listeria outbreak.
The lawsuit against Danone Canada has been settled for about $7.5 billion. The outbreak was linked to refrigerated plant-based beverages and was associated with 20 illnesses, 15 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
People who believe they were affected have until October 16, 2026, to file a claim. Payments vary depending on the severity of illness or harm, ranging from about $400 to as much as $300,000 in the most serious cases, including hospitalization or death.
The drinks involved included Silk and Great Value plant-based products such as almond, oat, coconut, and cashew blends. Claimants may need proof of purchase and medical records depending on the level of compensation sought.
