U.S. and French Passengers Test Positive for Hantavirus After Disembarking Cruise Ship.

An American and a French passenger who left a cruise ship linked to a deadly hantavirus outbreak have tested positive for the virus, health officials said. Another American passenger showed mild symptoms after returning home.

More than 90 passengers from the MV Hondius cruise ship are being flown back to their home countries after three passengers died. Two of the deaths were confirmed to be caused by hantavirus.

Health officials say the risk of a large outbreak remains low because the virus rarely spreads from person to person. Passengers are being monitored and isolated as a safety measure after returning home from the Canary Islands.
