Ontario moves ahead with $300M deal for massive new nuclear project at Bruce Power site

Ontario is moving forward with a deal worth up to $300 million to help prepare for a new nuclear power plant at the Bruce Power site in Kincardine.

The agreement between the province’s electricity operator and Bruce Power would support early work on the proposed Bruce C project, including site planning, construction preparation, workforce training, and talks with First Nations and local communities.

If approved, Bruce C would generate 4,800 megawatts of electricity — enough to power about 4.8 million homes — and could make the Bruce site the largest nuclear facility in the world.

Energy Minister Stephen Lecce said the project would create thousands of long-term jobs and help provide reliable electricity for Ontario’s growing economy.

The project still needs federal approval, including environmental reviews and licensing. Nuclear energy currently supplies about half of Ontario’s electricity.
