Trump says Iran blockade will “remain in full force” despite Strait of Hormuz reopening

Beirut — Iran says it has reopened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial ships, but it is still controlling which vessels can pass. Officials warned the route could close again if the U.S. keeps its blockade on Iranian ships and ports.

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said ships must follow routes approved by Iranian authorities, suggesting Tehran still has strong control over the waterway.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said the American blockade will stay in place until Iran agrees to a deal, including limits on its nuclear program. He added that new talks between the two countries could happen soon.

The situation comes as a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon appears to be holding, though tensions remain high. Fighting in the region has caused thousands of deaths, and there are still concerns the conflict could grow again.
