A class action lawsuit has been filed in Canada against Rogers and Fido over a major nationwide outage that happened in 2021.

According to a statement from Montreal law firm Lex Group Inc., customers of Rogers, Fido, and Chatr who lost cell service during the outage on April 19, 2021, may be eligible for compensation.

The outage began early in the morning and lasted into the evening for some users, leaving many unable to make calls, send texts, or use mobile data. Rogers said at the time that the issue was caused by a software update problem.

On February 20, 2024, the Superior Court of Quebec approved a national class action against Rogers Communications Inc., Rogers Communications Canada Inc., and Fido Solutions Inc.

If the lawsuit is successful, affected customers could receive partial refunds for service fees or other financial, moral, or punitive damages, according to Lex Group. The exact amount of compensation will be decided later by the court.

Customers who had Rogers, Fido, or Chatr service during the outage don’t need to take any action or pay any lawyer fees to be included in the class action.

However, anyone who does not want to participate must contact the clerk of the Superior Court of Quebec (District of Montreal) by November 23, 2025, using registered or certified mail.
