“Halo: Campaign Evolved” Marks the Franchise’s Long-Awaited Debut on PlayStation 5

At Friday’s Halo World Championships, developer Halo Studios announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the first game’s single-player story. Just like in the original, players will step into the role of Master Chief after he and his UNSC team crash on a mysterious ring world filled with the alien Covenant and the deadly Flood.

This remake is the first Halo game made using Unreal Engine, a powerful tool used by many modern games. It also adds three new prequel missions focused on Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, set before the events of the first game. These missions will include new characters, gameplay moments, and locations.

The team is also updating parts of the campaign to make it feel more modern and improve pacing and clarity. One example is “The Library” level, which many fans disliked in the original game. According to creative director Max Szlagor, that mission now has better pacing and stronger environmental storytelling.

One of the biggest surprises is that Campaign Evolved will also release on the PlayStation 5. Over the past few years, Microsoft has become more open to sharing its major Xbox franchises with other platforms—like the Ori and Gears of War series.

With Halo now coming to PlayStation, this marks a new era for the franchise. Brian Jarrard, the studio’s community lead, said the team is thrilled to bring more players together. The game will support four-player online co-op and crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S when it launches in 2026.
