Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day Attacker Now Charged with 11 Counts of Murder

The man accused of killing 11 people by driving into a crowd at a Vancouver street festival in April is now facing more charges.

On Tuesday, Vancouver police said prosecutors have added three more second-degree murder charges against Kai-Ji Adam Lo. This brings the total number of murder charges to 11.

“These extra charges were approved after police investigators gave more evidence to the BC Prosecution Service,” police said in a news release.

Lo, who is 30 years old, made a short court appearance earlier this month. He is accused of causing the April 26 tragedy, where dozens of people were also seriously hurt. As of June 26, six people were still in the hospital.

Lo will have a two-day hearing this week, on Wednesday and Thursday, to decide if he is mentally fit to go to trial.

Police said that Lo had many past interactions with officers because of mental health issues. The day before the attack, he also spoke with police in a nearby city. That meeting wasn’t criminal and didn’t lead to any mental health treatment.

Lo is still in custody.
