Health Canada Issues Nationwide Recall of Anker Power Banks Over Fire Risk

Health Canada Recalls Anker Power Banks Due to Fire Risk

Health Canada has announced a nationwide recall of certain Anker power banks because they could overheat and cause a fire.

The recall, made on Friday, includes the following Anker products:

  • Anker Power Bank – Model A1647 – 20,000mAh, with a built-in USB-C cable

  • Anker Zolo Power Bank – Model A1681 – 20,000mAh, 30W, with built-in USB-C and Lightning cables

  • Anker Zolo Power Bank – Model A1689 – 20,000mAh, 30W, with a built-in USB-C cable

These products use lithium-ion batteries, which can get too hot and become a fire hazard.

So far, 11,985 of these power banks have been sold in Canada between December 2023 and June 2025. As of June 18, there have been no reports of injuries or problems in Canada.

Health Canada is telling people to stop using the recalled power banks right away. Customers can contact Anker to get a free replacement or a website voucher.

People should not throw the power banks in the garbage. Instead, they should call their local city or town office to find out how to safely get rid of the batteries, since lithium-ion batteries are considered hazardous waste.

This Canadian recall follows one in the United States on June 12. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled over one million Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks after several reports of fires, explosions, and injuries. There were also 11 reports of property damage totaling more than $60,000.
