Guardians Vol. 3″ and “Super Mario Bros.” reign supreme at the box office.

This weekend, a plethora of fresh films graced theaters across the nation. Audiences were treated to a delightful escapade in Italy, featuring the talents of Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Diane Keaton, and Mary Steenburgen.

Alongside this, a captivating detective thriller led by Ben Affleck captivated viewers. Despite these new releases, it was Marvel and Mario that maintained their dominance, securing the top two spots once again.

According to studio estimates on Sunday, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” secured an impressive $60.5 million from North American theaters in its second weekend.

This marked a remarkable 49% decline from its opening weekend, a rarity among major superhero films that typically experience steeper drops of 60% or more in their second weekends. Notably, this resilient performance dispels the notion of “superhero fatigue” that was speculated upon last weekend. With an additional $91.9 million earned from international screenings, “Vol. 3” has already amassed a remarkable worldwide total of over $528.8 million.

Claiming the second position was “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which raked in $13 million during its sixth weekend, propelling its domestic earnings tantalizingly close to $536 million. With limited alternatives available for families with younger children in theaters, Mario’s arrival has prompted repeated viewings, ensuring its continued reign at the box office.

The movie is still captivating audiences across 3,800 domestic locations. On a global scale, it has amassed an astounding $1.2 billion in ticket sales.
