Gas prices expected to fall as geopolitical tensions keep market on edge

Drivers in Canada could see lower gas prices starting next week as stations switch to cheaper winter gasoline.

The seasonal fuel blend usually costs less to produce, and gas prices also tend to fall in cooler weather because people drive less.

Petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan says the change can often reduce prices by 5 to 20 cents per litre, meaning a 50-litre fill-up could save drivers up to $10.

However, ongoing conflict in the Middle East is keeping oil prices unpredictable. The Strait of Hormuz, a key route for about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply, remains heavily disrupted, which could offset some of the expected seasonal price drop.
