Theft of gold and other items of significant value, worth around $20 million, from Airport.

An investigation is underway by the police regarding the theft of a container carrying valuable items, including gold, estimated to be worth around $20 million, from Pearson Airport in Toronto.

Insp. Stephen Duivesteyn, spokesperson for Peel Regional Police, stated at a news conference on Thursday that the container arrived on an airplane early on Monday evening.

The airline was not named, and the location of the plane’s origin was not disclosed by Duivesteyn to prevent hindering the investigation.

According to Duivesteyn, the plane was unloaded following standard procedures, and its contents were taken to an airport holding facility before being “illegally removed.”

The theft was reported soon after it was discovered, and no arrests have been made yet.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority, the entity responsible for operating the airport, released a statement to CBC News indicating that the perpetrators had entered a warehouse that was rented out to a third party, located in a public area outside of the airport’s primary security perimeter.

The authority added that the incident did not affect the safety of passengers or its staff at Pearson airport.

Regarding the identity of the culprits, Insp. Duivesteyn refrained from labeling it as a professional operation, although the investigation is still in progress.

Insp. Duivesteyn assured the public that the theft was an isolated occurrence, and there was no need for concern regarding the safety of air travel.

He stated that the incident did not cause any disruptions to the airport’s operations, and there were no issues with travel safety.

“This is very rare,” He remarked, The police are currently unaware of the gold’s destination or if it is still within the country. No details on suspects have been provided as of yet.
