Unionized General Motors workers in Ontario have voted to approve new three-year collective agreements with the automaker.
Unifor says more than 4,600 workers in Oshawa, St. Catharines, Woodstock and Ingersoll were covered by the vote. Members supported the deals by 80.5 per cent at most plants, while Ingersoll workers approved them with 96.5 per cent support.
The agreements raise wages to $50.20 per hour for full-rate production workers and $62.71 per hour for skilled trades workers. They also include annual three per cent wage increases, a renewed cost-of-living allowance, a $10,000 productivity and quality bonus for eligible workers, and a $2,000 December bonus.
Unifor says the contracts also secure more than $1 billion in investments for GM facilities in Canada, including new production projects in Oshawa and St. Catharines.
The union says it will continue pushing to restore production at the CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, where most workers remain on indefinite layoff.
