Petition Urging Sony to Reverse Decision Surpasses 100,000 Signatures in Four Days

Sony’s decision to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games starting in January 2028 has sparked a strong reaction from gamers.

The company recently confirmed the shift toward fully digital game sales, a move that quickly drew criticism online. Many players say it reduces consumer choice and makes it harder to own, trade, or resell games.

In response, a petition called “Don’t Kill the Disc” was launched on Change.org and has already gained more than 100,000 signatures in just four days. Supporters argue that physical discs allow true ownership of games, while digital copies are seen more as licenses that can be restricted or removed.

The petition also highlights concerns about game preservation and jobs tied to physical production and retail. Some fans say they are not ضد digital games, but want physical copies to remain an option.

Sony has not yet publicly responded to the backlash. However, the company’s move appears to be part of a long-term shift toward digital distribution, which many in the industry see as inevitable despite public opposition.
