Toronto Plastic Surgeon Ordered to Pay $22.5M for Secretly Filming Patients in Clinic

A Toronto plastic surgeon has been ordered to pay $22.5 million to former patients after secretly filming them without consent inside his clinic.

A judge ruled that Dr. Martin Jugenburg, known online as “Dr. 6ix,” violated patients’ privacy by placing more than 20 hidden cameras throughout his clinic, including in consultation and examination rooms where patients sometimes undressed.

The lawsuit began after cameras were discovered in private areas of the clinic in 2018. Patients said they were never told they were being recorded.

The judge called Jugenburg’s actions “reprehensible” and said he abused the trust of vulnerable patients. The court ordered him to pay $21.5 million in damages and another $1 million in punitive damages.

Jugenburg said he is reviewing the decision with his lawyers and admitted he should have done more to protect patient privacy.
