Google is returning to smart glasses more than a decade after its first attempt with Google Glass ended in failure.
The company announced that the new glasses will go on sale in the fall. They will include a small camera built into the frame and speakers in the arms, allowing users to interact with Google’s AI system, Gemini.
Google first showed the product at its annual developer conference in Mountain View, California. It also revealed two styles, one designed with Warby Parker and another with Gentle Monster.
Unlike the original Google Glass, which was launched in 2013 and removed in 2015 due to high cost and privacy concerns, the new version is designed for everyday use. Google says the glasses will let users stay hands-free while receiving spoken AI assistance privately.
The glasses will work with both Android and Apple devices. A version with a built-in display that can show text and images is also being developed but will come later.
Privacy concerns are already being raised again, similar to those around Google Glass and newer smart glasses from companies like Meta. Critics worry about people being recorded without knowing it.
Other companies, including Snap and Apple, are also working on smart glasses, showing growing interest in the technology.
Developers say the glasses could make it easier to use apps like maps, voice tools, and event services without needing to open a phone.
