Former Tbaytel CEO enters race for mayor

THUNDER BAY – Former Tbaytel CEO Peter Diedrich is running for mayor, saying he wants to help improve the city instead of “sitting on the sidelines.”

Diedrich announced Tuesday that he plans to file his nomination papers for the upcoming municipal election. He says he wants a city government that is faster, more open and more ambitious.

His goals include safer streets, better support for people dealing with homelessness and addiction, and stronger support for local businesses. He also wants to reduce red tape and help grow jobs in Thunder Bay.

Diedrich said the city should invest more in roads, public spaces, arts and culture, while working with Lakehead University, Confederation College and the healthcare sector to build a stronger economy.

An engineer and business leader, Diedrich has worked in venture capital and currently teaches graduate engineering courses at Lakehead University.

He joins Volker Kromm, Moe Comuzzi and Trevor Giertuga in the race for mayor.
