Recall issued for nuts sold in Ontario over salmonella contamination risk

Certain pistachios sold in Ontario have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, officials say.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said the recall was based on its own test results. The affected product is Heeva Fine Foods pistachios (200 g), sold at Heeva Fine Foods in Richmond Hill. The recall covers all units sold in 2025 and 2026.

Consumers should not eat the pistachios. They should throw them out or return them to the store.

Salmonella can make people sick even if the food looks normal. Symptoms can include fever, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Young children, seniors, pregnant women and people with weak immune systems are at higher risk of serious illness.

No illnesses have been reported so far. The CFIA says it is still investigating and more recalls could follow.
