Costco Canada issuing refunds following recall over potential glass contamination in food product

Costco Canada has announced a nationwide recall of a frozen food product over concerns it may contain small pieces of glass.

The recall, posted on Feb. 20, affects Yakitori Chicken Fried Rice made by Ajinomoto Foods North America. The product was sold at Costco warehouses and Costco Business Centres across Canada.

The recalled item is a 1.53-kilogram box that contains six bags of frozen fried rice. It includes products with best-before dates between Sept. 9, 2026 and Nov. 12, 2026. Customers should check the date printed on the box and on the individual bags (in YY MM DD format).

Shoppers are told not to eat or use the product. It can be returned to any Costco warehouse for a full refund. So far, there have been no reports of injuries.

A similar recall was issued in the United States by the Food Safety and Inspection Service.
