Nearly 7,000 vehicles recalled in Canada over fire risk

Almost 7,000 vehicles have been recalled in Canada because of a possible fire risk.

Transport Canada says the problem involves the engine starter, which may not have been made properly. The starter could overheat and increase the risk of a fire.

The recall affects BMW vehicles, including some 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, X3, X4 and Z4 models from 2021 to 2024. A total of 6,958 vehicles in Canada are impacted.

BMW is advising drivers not to use the remote start feature and not to leave their vehicle running unattended until repairs are done. Owners will be contacted by mail and asked to visit a dealership to have the starter replaced.
