Bacon recalled in Ontario over undeclared allergen risk

A food recall has been issued in Ontario after officials found an undeclared allergen in a plant-based product that could be dangerous for some people.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says Veggie Paradise brand Vegan Bacon Slice contains wheat that is not listed on the label. Wheat is a priority allergen and can cause serious or life-threatening reactions for people with wheat allergies, celiac disease, or gluten sensitivity.

The recalled product is sold in a 300-gram package with a best-before date of September 24, 2026, and was distributed in Ontario.

Consumers who have wheat allergies or gluten-related conditions should not eat the product. The CFIA says it should be thrown away or returned to the store. No illnesses have been reported so far, and the CFIA’s investigation is ongoing.

The recalled product includes:

  • Brand: Veggie Paradise
  • Product: Vegan Bacon Slice
  • Size: 300 g
  • UPC: 8 13794 00030 5
  • Best before date: September 24, 2026
