Popular frozen food recalled across Canada due to E. coli concerns

A popular frozen food sold across Canada has been recalled due to possible E. coli contamination, federal food safety officials say.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says several varieties of Pillsbury Pizza Pops are affected. The products were sold nationwide in different package sizes.

At least 20 people have become sick, and four have been hospitalized. Those affected range in age from one to 87 and live in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and New Brunswick.

E. coli can spread from person to person, even if someone does not have symptoms. Food contaminated with the bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms include stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea, which can sometimes be bloody.

General Mills says the recall is voluntary and that other Pizza Pops products are not affected.

Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled products and to throw them away or return them to the store. Anyone who feels sick after eating the products should contact a health care provider.
