Nearly 5 million pounds of frozen chicken recalled over safety concerns

Hormel Foods is recalling almost 4.9 million pounds of frozen boneless chicken after pieces of metal were found in the products, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The company discovered the issue after customers reported finding metal in chicken breast and thigh meat. Hormel said the metal came from a damaged conveyor belt used during production. So far, there have been no reports of anyone getting sick or hurt.

The recalled products, sold under the Hormel Fire Braised brand, were distributed to restaurants, cafeterias, and hotels across the country between February 10 and September 19. These items were only sold to food service companies, not directly to shoppers.

Officials say some of the recalled chicken might still be in freezers at food service locations and should be thrown away. Hormel has notified all affected customers.

Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Hormel Foods through its website or by calling 1-800-523-4635.
