Premier Ford, Barrie Mayor Tour Local Homeless Encampments

Premier Doug Ford Urges Universities to Remove Pro-Palestinian Encampments, Citing Safety Concerns and Public Frustration

Ontario Premier Doug Ford visited Barrie, Ont., over the weekend to tour the city’s homeless encampments with Mayor Alex Nuttall.

In a Facebook post shared by Nuttall on Sept. 20, photos showed the two leaders visiting the sites.

Earlier this month, Nuttall declared a state of emergency about the encampments and asked the province for help, saying public safety was at risk.

During their visit to Milligan’s Pond, Ford and Nuttall talked about the need for cities to enforce bylaws and tackle problems like mental health, addiction, and affordable housing.

Nuttall said solving the situation will take teamwork from all levels of government. The city has already cleared some camps, but it could take months to deal with the rest.
