Ontario recalls pistachio desserts and ice cream over salmonella risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall in Ontario after salmonella was found in certain pistachio-based desserts and ice cream. Shamyat Cuisine, located at 4141 Dixie Rd. in Mississauga, sold the affected items between June 1 and June 30, 2025.

Products recalled

These products were sold without UPC codes and may have been clerk-served or packaged in 1 kg containers:

  • Shamyat Pistachio Arabic Ice Cream

  • Pistachio Mabrume

  • Pistachio Finger Baklawa

  • Pistachio Flower Baklawa

  • Pistachio Square Baklawa

  • Pistachio Faisaliyea

  • Pistachio Basma

What to do

  • Do not eat, sell, or serve the recalled products.

  • Check your home for anything bought from Shamyat Cuisine during June.

  • Return the products for a refund or throw them out safely.

Health risks

Salmonella can cause symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.
While most people recover, young children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with weak immune systems are at higher risk of serious illness, including long-term complications like arthritis.

If you ate any of these products and feel sick, contact a healthcare provider right away.

Larger outbreak

This recall is part of a bigger salmonella outbreak linked to pistachio products across Canada. By late August 2025, more than 60 people had become sick in B.C., Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, with at least 10 hospitalizations reported.
