Thunder Bay Launches Official Bike Lane Network

Thunder Bay’s Bike Lanes Officially Open for the Season

City officials have announced that Thunder Bay’s network of bike lanes is now open and ready for public use. The seasonal launch, typically occurring earlier in the year, was delayed due to prolonged winter conditions and the resulting debris buildup.

With the lanes now open, the city reminds residents that parking restrictions are in effect in designated bike lane areas and will be actively enforced. The bike lanes are scheduled to remain open until November 15, weather permitting.

“With warmer temperatures and higher fuel costs, motorists can expect increased cyclist activity throughout the city,” the release stated. “Drivers are urged to stay vigilant, respect designated bike lanes, and share the road. This includes yielding at intersections, providing ample space when passing cyclists, and reducing speeds as necessary.”

Thunder Bay currently maintains 69 kilometres of on-road bike lanes and an additional 60 kilometres of off-road multi-use trails, offering extensive options for cyclists across the city.
