A specific model of vehicle is being recalled in Canada due to a software issue that could cause it to roll away while parked, according to Transport Canada.
The recall affects certain 2025 Ford Explorer SUVs equipped with a 2.3-litre engine.
Transport Canada explained in a notice that a software malfunction may cause the powertrain control module to reset while the vehicle is in motion. If this occurs, it could damage the parking pawl—a key component that helps keep the vehicle stationary when in “Park.”
“As a result, when the transmission is shifted into park, the vehicle could move if the parking brake is not engaged,” the notice stated. “Additionally, under certain conditions, there may be a loss of power to the wheels.”
Officials warned that these issues increase the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify affected vehicle owners by mail, advising them to visit a dealership for a software update. Dealerships will also inspect the transmission and replace it if necessary.
A total of 1,607 vehicles in Canada are impacted by the recall.
