Health Canada Issues Recalls for Melatonin and Acetaminophen Due to Dosing Errors
Health Canada has issued two separate recall alerts involving melatonin supplements and acetaminophen tablets, citing concerns about incorrect dosage information that could pose health risks.
Consumers are being urged to inspect their medicine cabinets and verify product details to ensure their safety.
The first recall affects specific lots of Life Brand Time Release Melatonin 10 mg, a supplement commonly used to support sleep. Health Canada reports that certain batches may contain incorrect dosage instructions on the label. This labeling error could cause users to unintentionally take more or less melatonin than recommended.
The affected lot numbers include:
4D3965YA2, 4F4495YA2, 4F44961B0, 4F44962LH, 4H49262LH, and 5C47764ES.
In a separate alert, Health Canada has recalled Riva Acetaminophen 500 mg tablets, which may actually contain 325 mg tablets. This mislabeling results in an underdose, potentially reducing the effectiveness for those using the product for pain or fever relief. The recalled product is sold by Laboratoire Riva Inc., and is identified by lot number D3120.
Health Canada advises consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and consult a healthcare provider if they have any concerns about symptoms or medication effectiveness.
